Writing Prompt Friday #5

Welcome to Better Scribe’s Writing Prompt Friday. This is where I post a prompt (every Friday) for you to use as a writing exercise. You will also get to read my own (unedited) response to the same prompt.

Your writing prompt is:writing prompt

My response to the prompt:

It was the largest ship I had ever been on. Two levels high and built like a yacht. I had been told that seating was on the top level only. The seats were plastic chairs nailed into the floor to keep them in place. There were no seatbelts or other safety devices.

I sat down and the ship gently cruised into open water before speeding up. Wind was tangling my hair, whipping it against my face. The ship took its first turn and everybody screamed as the top level skimmed the water. The seat lifted slightly as another turn was made and I gripped the seat tighter. People around me were crying or praying.

Finally the ship pulled into its mooring and people scattered in an attempt to get off. My hands were shaking and white-knuckled from where they had clenched around the seat. As I disembarked I noticed a group of people dry-heaving over the grass to the side.

Your turn now! Enjoy.
